about

DESTER FARMS
"TILT-A-WHIRL"

1. A young Tilt-a-Whirl attendee abandons their post.

2. Our hero, a bald, grinning, full-grown man, wears a pink babydoll dress, horizontally-striped tights, and traditional Dutch wooden clogs while drifting down an infinite stream of tranquil currents and cacophonic waterfalls.

3. "...the farmer motions toward the wall..."

4. I once lived in a house that used to be a church. As a happy consequence, one of the walls in my home had comprised part of the sanctuary, and so two of the windows along that wall were yellow-stained and textured memories of that holy time in the building's life. When I was living in that house, I would sit on the floor in the late afternoon, bathed in a golden and sacred light, writing music at the guitar, and smoking hookah. This tune is one of the songs written during that period.

The album's saxophonist and composer, Jake Dester, reflects on the significance of DESTER FARMS:
"The name Dester Farms was inspired by a particular hat I found at my grandpa’s house following his death. My grandfather was always hoping for that big break or bumper crop that would allow him to live a life of contentment, but unfortunately it was not to be, and he died in debt to the Farmers Home Administration. Before he passed away, my family decided to auction off his property prior to a date when his estate would be repossessed. We grandkids were basically allowed to take whatever we wanted from the estate, and knowing that the man hoarded trucker hats, I perused his collection to find one that I would keep and wear in his memory. I eventually encountered a hat which read “DESTER FARMS” and claimed it as my own..."
